Okay, I was thinking about some video games and how some parts of the game are totally unnecessary and not even needed. Since there are some spoilers in this post, even though it's for Final Fantasy V, I'm going to put the obligatory space.
Okay. In Final Fantasy V, shortly after you reach the first town in World 2, there's a castle nearby called the Sealed Castle. If you go inside, all you'll fight is a super-powerful dragon called the Shield Dragon. And all he does is run roughshod over your party. He's got Auto-Reflect and can confuse a party member with a devestating attack. In addition, he has Zombie Breath, which deals 500-ish damage and turns anyone it kills into a Thriller reject. You can't run from it, so it's mainly there as a "Do Not Enter" enemy.
What's the point of it, though? Why not just have the opening screen be outside, and have the entrance gate be closed until you are able to get there, at which point the gate will open, either by a key or by an event?
Instead, if my abundant curiosity gets the better of me - and it will - I have to go in there, get into a fight, and get my butt handed to me every single time.
And there you have it. R.S., if you want, I can take this down. Basically, discuss any and all fights, stages, or bosses you feel are completely and utterly unnecessary in video games.
