Follow:
Your party needs to have room for a 4-star size Pokémon.That means you can have 1 2-stars Pokémon or 2 1-star Pokémon
*Level up!
*Your leader must strike the final bow in boss figth and be adjacent to the Pokémon you're trying to recruit it.
*A bit of good news: You won't need(and can't get)the bosses' friend areas in advance.
*Get the friend bow to increase your odds of succes.
*Persistence is the key. You can do everything rigth and still fail.Buck up and try again.

Hello, not all bosses are size 4. some are size 1 and one is even size 2.
Have you seen mewtwo and Jirachi?
Anyway, tight belts are perfect for getting those two.

Latios/Latias
Mew
Mewtwo
Jirachi
Ho-Oh
