When you picked up your first copy of a Pokémon game in your life, which Pokémon did you choose to be your partner and in which version? It can be any version.
As for me, it was Christmas Eve and we had a (in our terms) a pretty large amount of presents to choose from (4 presents for us each). But no matter what, we were always allowed to open just one gift to keep us quite until the next day and to prevent us sneaking to take a peek at the rest (worked well for us). I was only about 7 years old or so at the time, but I heard a lot of talk about a new game that hit the stores recently called "Pokémon". I was very excited and wanted it desperatly for Christmas.
I knew that my mom had gotten me both Red and Blue versions of Pokémon for me, but I was hoping that I would end up picking the Blue version instead of the read as an early gift (the games were already wrapped). But what happend is that I opened up the Red version instead. I was just a smidge disappointed because blue is my favorite color, but I didn't throw a fit. I was more like "Ah crud", but was still very excited about playing it.
As soon as I whipped out the game from the box and inserted it into my GameBoy (the OLD, big n' bulky one), I was in la-la land for hours. And when I started, I choose Squirtle as my first starter ever and raised him like mad!
So, not only do I like Squirtle the best out of all the Pokémon because I think it's really cool and cute, but also because he was the first Pokémon I ever trained with.
What's your story?

Same as Latios. What happened was this: I was a BAD girl one Christmas and had stolen the Pokémon Yellow game, which had the special-edition Pokémon Yellow GBC with it at the time. I opened it up and started playing it, very much excited and yet very hush-hush about it. You see, my parents weren't supposed to know about the fact that I was playing that.
It was becaue of this Pikachu that I ended up coming up with the name of Talim Rave in the first place, but I could only fit in Talim at the time. Fine by me.
Well, one time, I played it a little TOO loudly and I was busted by the mother, so they returned it to the store instead of rehiding it and making me wait until Christmas to teach me a lesson. (That lesson didn't go through so well, because I did the same thing to other presents the following three years as well.) However, unknown to everyone else, I gave that package a secret marking that only I would recognize.
Lo and behold, I found that same game in the same store two years later during the summertime. I had saved up some money and decided at random to bring it with me. I had enough for that paticular game and the GBC that came with it.
I got the original Talim Rave back. Needless to say, I'm happy. The Talim Rave that I have now in PMD is a sort-of tribute to that first Pokémon.

My first Pokémon game i got when i was little. Like, little little. I had heard of it from my cousin that got it for Christmas and my parents got Blue for me. I choose bulbasaur and stupid young un-stragetic me, I didn't know you could have more than one Pokémon... I know, i know. Stupid. I had always wondered why you needed a Pok?Dex or what pokeballs were used for. But i didn't mind, my the time he was Venasaur, he had grown 15 levels above the trainers i was facing. I would play on the couch for two hours just trying to level him up once on wild Pokémon. It drove me mad that it took so long to level him up. I remember that this one time I was facing Gary (the grandson of Oak) and his Charizard kept pulling this one move, I think Flamethrower, and one-hit KOing me. I kept trying and leveling and trying and leveling. I can't beleive i was so nieve back then...

I didn't know you could have more than one Pokémon... I know, i know. Stupid. I had always wondered why you needed a Pok?Dex or what pokeballs were used for. Almost a similar situation for me, except I didn't understand the whole PC system. I just threw Pokeballs at whatever crossed my path. Then when it told me my PC was full, I was like "Err... that's kinda dumb." I then went to the PC and didn't know I could change boxes. So, instead I released every Pokémon in my PC into the wild. Not that they were rare or anything- it was basically filled with Pidgy and Rattata. First time I did this was at the Pokémon Center right before Mt. Moon. I did this about 3 or 4 more times before I realised that I could change boxes. Right on time before facing any legendaries!

I picked Charmander on my beloved Red version - I had to read 5 classics (like big, long, boring, big word books. I was 7 for Pete's sake!) just to get it! And then I got the color, and it was like, SO cool. MY first Charmander was awesome. It's LV 70 right now I think.

I don't really remember what my first Pokémon was...
I played a lot of Pokémon games before, but my mom would never let me actually buy one of the games. She always said, "No, you have to practice your saxophone, do the laundry, etc etc etc..."
The first game I ever got was FireRed. I chose Squirtle.
After that, my friend gave me Sapphire, and now I'm getting Pearl.

I fugured out I could switch boxes The first time i saw the PC in the game ;D
I Can't Remember when I got My Pokémon Red Version But I know it was after the game boy advance came out cause I remember I used to play it on a Game boy advance.I remember my first Pokémon was a charmander, I chose him because I thought he kind of looked the Pokémon on the box but later I began to like water Pokémon even better (even though Charmander was my first lvl 100 Pokémon) so just about every game I got after that I chose the water starter

I remember getting Pokémon Blue version, what was it, sometime in October 1998? Was it out then? Anyways. My friend Jon and his little brother Mikey also got the games - Jon got Red, Mikey got Blue. We decided to each choose a different starter, and we drew straws to see who chose first. Unfortunately, at the time, I couldn't draw a straight line to save my life, so I ended up with the worst draw. Jon got the best draw and chose Bulbasaur, and Mikey chose Squirtle. So I was "stuck" with Charmander. Looking back on it now, I probably would've chosen Charmander regardless of the results. It was the first one I got to 100 anyways. When I look back on it now, I find myself laughing at the mistakes I kept making at first. I did play sensibly, but I was so reluctant to use items like Potions, Antidotes, and things like that - for that reason, my Pokémon tended to get fainted a lot. I was also stubborn as heck so I almost never ran from any battles. The resulting game was full of trips to the Pokémon Center, but fast levelling. I remember my team averaged around level 80 or so after beating the Elite Four. Two of my biggest mistakes were evolving my Pikachu into a Raichu as soon as I reached Celadon City (it was only level 27 at that time, so I had to use TMs to teach it moves) and accidentally giving my Fire Blast TM to a Ninetales that I didn't even use after the eighth gym instead of to my Charizard. This is making me feel really nostalgic.

I did that to get the Pokeomn you usualy couldn't get on that version. I don't do that anymore, as I find that to be a little evil, even if a glitch is something in-game ^^
