DSi XL surface texture

Hi.

I'm thinking of buying an XL, but didn't like the matte "chalkboard" texture of the DSi.

I know the XL has a glossy top, and matte base, but is the base and rest still "chalkboard" like, or is it a different smoother kind of matte than the standard DSi?

Why bother at all? The 3DS is out and can do everything the XL can do and more, as far as I'm aware.

XL is less expensive, I guess.
