Dante's Story
By Dante Vittone
The beginning of this story is based on my life, but not totally. A few things are embellished, but the idea is true. But don't go calling the social worker on my family, I mean come on. I don't have the guts to stand up to my mom in real life, and not even the most unfortunate person in the world's life sucks this bad. I wrote this out of the pure stress of yesterday. Thanks, I hope everyone likes my story. OH, and by the way...this story will have Pokémon in it, just not in the beginning.
It was Friday. Dante was at school. Math/science class, the last class of the day. You would think a normal, teenage school boy would be thrilled that it was so close to the weekend, right? WRONG. Dante absolutely dreaded the weekends, and there was but one reason. Dante's parents only saw him as the “Kid who went horribly wrong”. Dante didn't like his parents, either. They always had something to complain about, whether it be the way he dressed or did his hair, or not folding his socks correctly. Dante didn't take stress well, either. Especially when it came from his parents. But, let's not get ahead of ourselves. As I was saying, Dante was at school in math/science class.

CHAPTER 1: Out of the Frying Pan, and into the Fire
**** **** ****
“Dante...”
“Dante.”
“Dante! Wake up!” It was Mr. Israel, Dante's math and science teacher.
Dante sat up suddenly. “What?! Huh? Er...Heh-heh.” Said Dante.
Mr. Israel said, “Dante, can you please tell me the answer to question #8a?”
Dante groaned. He must have fallen asleep from Mr. Israel's boring math lessons again. He didn't even know what Question 8a's question was. “Um...The...square root of 144?”
Everyone in the room started laughing at Dante. Mr. Israel gave him the look. “Dante, we're doing science now. I'm afraid I'm going to have to send you to the Dean.
Sarah, Dante's friend who sat at his table, was rolling on the floor laughing, literally. “The square root...HAHAHA...of 4...HA! 2...Dante, you're such--(snort)--a moron...(Hahaha...)”
Dante sighed. The dean was like the principal who handled rule-breaking children in his school. He didn't like going there, not because of confronting the “Principal”, but because they called home to tell his parents what he did. Dante knew what was coming when he got home.
****Later that Day****
Dante was sitting on the school bus, on his way home from school. After being sent to the dean, Dante was pondering ways to avoid his parents when he got off at his house. He knew it wouldn't be possible to totally avoid their line of sight, but maybe...just maybe he could avoid getting bombarded by endless “Why on earth did you”'s and “How many times did I tell you”'s.
It was his stop. Dante got off the bus, and it drove away. He took in a deep breath. “Okay...I'm just going to walk in, drop my backpack, and walk down to my bedroom like nothing has even happened...” Said Dante, as he opened the front door. His mom was there to “Greet” him.
“Dante David Vittone, you are one grounded boy.” Said his mother, towering over him like the empire state building.
Dante held his breath. He knew what was coming. “Oh boy...” His mom grabbed him by his hair and dragged him into the kitchen, plunking him down on the chair furiously. She then sat down across from him.
“Falling asleep in class, AGAIN? How many times do I have to tell you that you have to listen to the teacher no matter how boring it--” Dante sighed and smashed his head on the table. “--is and SIT UP STRAIGHT right now YOUNG MAN!” Dante sat up slowly. “This is why you're grounded for the next month, which means no computer, no TV, and no phone! You go to school, come home, do your homework, and go to bed. Now get up to your room and clean it up, NOW. Or I'll ground you for another month.” His mom yelled. Dante just sat there, looking into space. “I...said...NOW.” And with that she picked up the chair with Dante still sitting in it, and put him in his room, remembering to lock the door. “And you're not coming out until dinner, DO you understand?!”
Dante, already pissed at his mother, rolled his eyes and said, “Sure...”
His mom opened the door and slapped him across the face. “Ouch! What the heck, mom!”
His mom held him by his shirt now. “YOU will NOT be rude to ME, do YOU UNDERSTAND THAT YOUNG MAN?!”
Dante, who had put up to this many, many times before, glared his mom in the eyes, and said, “Let go of me, now.”
His mom, who still held him up to the wall by his shirt, laughed and said, “I don't think so, Mr. 'I think I'm so tough.' What do you think you can do to me?”
Dante knew she was right, but didn't want to admit it. What could he do to his mom right now that wouldn't get him arrested. He just looked down and sighed.
His mom smiled that horrible, evil smile of hers. “Hmph. I thought so.” She put him down, walked out of his room, and locked the door.
And that was where Dante spent the rest of his night.

CHAPTER 2: The Retribution
**** **** ****
Dante was hurt. He wasn't in any physical pain, but his mind was racing. He opened his eyes and looked at his clock. It was only 8:14 PM. He'd just gone to bed 14 minutes ago, but it felt like hours.
He rolled over and whispered to himself. “Sometimes, I just wish I could get away...go to some faraway place and begone from this house. I'm completely fed up with my mother, father, brother, and sister. Barely anything even a little positive ever happens around here, and everyone is constantly yelling. Someone, anyone, just take me away.”
He struggled to get back to sleep...And did.
**** **** ****
“It is your turn. Your time. It's your purpose, your...wish. Go forth, protect us...”
Dante awoke suddenly. He was sweating like a hot dog in a microwave.
“What on earth...was that?” He said to himself. “Maybe I should go get a drink of water or something...” He walked out into the kitchen, grabbed a cup from the from the cupboard, and was about to turn on the sink. But that's when he saw the unimaginable. Lying a mere 20 meters away from the outer most wall of his house, was a...vortex or portal of some kind. Dante dropped his cup and ran to the door. Then he heard someone's voice.
“It is your turn.” The voice said.
Dante looked puzzled and scared. “Wait...haven't I heard that voice...before?”
The voice spoke again. “Your time.”
Dante's eyes widened. He was scared, but he opened the door and began walking towards the portal.
Again, the voice said something. “It's your purpose, your...wish.”
Dante walked closer to the portal. Somehow, he just knew to do just that.
But then, Dante's mom burst through the open door and grabbed Dante. This broke Dante's trance-like state. “ARG! What on earth are you THINKING, DANTE?! GET AWAY FROM THAT!”
Dante struggled. “No! I...WANT to...”
His mom gripped him tighter. “Never! Stop STRUGGLING! I'll never let YOU go ANYWHERE!” She started dragging Dante away from the portal, and back into the house. “NO!” Dante screamed. He reached out with his free arm towards the portal. All of the sudden, lightning struck nearby. His mom jumped, allowing Dante to run towards the portal.
Inches from the portal, Dante heard his mom say something. “STOP!”
Dante stopped. He stood there, facing the portal.
His mom tried to act calm. “If you're smart...you'll get back here RIGHT...NOW!”
Dante turned slowly to face his mother. “Do you really think after what has happened to me in the past year or two, I'm actually going to listen to THAT!? I seriously doubt it.” Dante turned to face the portal once again. “I think this is my chance to...start over. A...retribution of some kind or other.”
His mom just stood there, with lightning striking randomly in their yard.
Dante turned to face his mom. “I think we have different definitions of smart.” And with that, he jumped into the portal.
“Go forth...protect...us...”

CHAPTER 3: The Transition
**** **** ****
It was dark. Very dark indeed.
Dante thought to himself. “It's so dark. Am I...falling? I feel like...I'm being...pulled away from something...” Dante remembered what just happened. He gasped and opened his eyes. It was dark and errie, but there were small specks of light dotted here and there. He was indeed falling. “Am I...dead? Did the vortex...kill me?” Dante thought and thought. “I must be--” He heard something. “Hello? Is...anybody there?...”
A voice spoke faintly from all directions. “No...not dead...help...Pl--” The voice faded away.
Dante was scared and confused. “No! Please! Who are you?!”
There was no response. Dante continued to fall through the darkness.
Dante spoke to himself. “I don't understand...what's going on?!” The quiet, eerie darkness continued to surround him. Dante sighed. “I did what I did to get away...is this what I traded my life for?...”
The voice returned, even more faint than last time. “Please help...us...Dante.” It faded.
Dante closed his eyes. “I'm more than willing to help...I just don't know what to do...”
The voice, as faint as Dante could possibly hear, returned once more. “It will all...piece together soon.”
Dante felt odd. Just like someone was tickling him from the inside. But then, that feeling turned to scorching pain. Dante curled up into ball. It felt like his stomach was on fire. It felt like he was being stabbed by one thousand needles. He squeezed his eyes shut, attempting to control the pain, but to no avail. Eventually, the pain was too much. The entire area around Dante's eyesight grew bright white, and Dante practically passed out.
“No...wha--” He thought as he drifted in and out of consciousness. Then, he lost feeling to everywhere in his body. “Why...” Was his last thought as he finally fainted.
**** **** ****
It was cold, quiet night. The wind was howling. Dante shivered and murmured to himself. “Who opened my window...” Thinking he was still in bed, Dante sat up and reached for his bedsheets, only to find nothing of the sort. His eyes burst open. Dante was outside somewhere in a clearing of some sort, and it felt like midnight.
“Whe-where am I?” He said, and he shivered again. “It's free—freezing. Gotta find some shel-shelter...” He looked around quickly, but spotted nothing of the sort. But then, he saw a tree. I guess it'll have to--” He saw his hand. It was green and had 3 fingers. His eyes widened. “Wha—what the...” He followed his also green arm back up to the rest of his body. An area on his front was red, but the rest was also green. “My toes...there's 3, too?!” He stood in his spot and thought for a moment...and then gasped. Quickly, he turned his head around to look behind him. Dark-Green-Double-Tail that looks like a throw pillow. “I'm...a Treecko?!” He walked up to the tree that he'd seen a minute ago and put his hand on it. It stuck. “Wow...I guess it's true.” He climbed up into a hollow area in the tree's trunk and found a nice spot. Oddly enough, it was warm and cozy. “I guess...(Yawn)...I just have to...stay here tonight...”
He slowly nodded off into a deep sleep.
---- ---- ----
CHAPTER 4: The Meeting
---- ---- ----
“Er...hello?” A voice said. It poked Dante in his arm.
Dante rolled over. “Just 5 more minutes...”
The voice laughed. “I would appreciate it if you stopped sleeping on my food...”
Dante thought to himself. “Huh?” He sat up, yawned, and opened his eyes. In of him, standing there, was a Cubone. Dante screamed. “AH!” He staggered backward and tripped over a root that somehow grew into the hollow tree trunk he was in. “Wah!...Oof.”
The Cubone walked over to Dante. “Whoa, relax! What, do you think I'm going to eat you or something?” The Cubone said, then noticed Dante was still stomping all over his supply of food. “Er...do you mind?” He pointed to Dante's feet with the bone in his hand.
Dante looked down. He was indeed stomping all over all of the Cubone’s food. “Oh...I'm sorry.” Noticing he couldn't just walk out of the tree trunk without crushing anymore, Dante began climbing up the inside of the tree trunk.
The Cubone's eyes widened. “Um...I really don't think that's a really good idea...”
Dante was pretty high up by now. He yelled down to the Cubone. “Oh come on.” He kept climbing. “It's just a hollow tree trunk. What could possibly be living in here?”
The Cubone was whispering now. “Shhh! You'll wake them up!!!”
Dante couldn't hear him. “What? Can you speak up a bit? I can't hear you!” He reached the top of the tree and yelled down once again. “Hey, don't worry, I'm at the top! I told you there was nothing to worry about!”
The Cubone groaned and put his hand on his face. “This could end badly...”
Dante turned around, and was about to climb down the outside of the tree, when he saw a Beedrill. “Oh hi! I'm Dante, and I was just--”
The Beedrill cut him off. “Gettttt...himmmm...”
Dante frowned. “Who are you talking to...” He turned around. “Oh.” Behind him, there were about 50 Beedrill. He turned to face the first Beedrill once again. “Um, no hard feelings, right? Heh-heh.”
There was silence…
…
…
The head Beedrill broke the silence. “NOW!” All of the sudden, all of the Beedrill dove for Dante.
Dante panicked. “AH!” He made a mad dash for the opening in the top of the tree trunk and dove in. He fell for a minute, but then landed on something small and furry. He groaned and stood up. “What did I land…Oh.” Noticing that it was in fact the Cubone from earlier that he had landed on, he helped it up. “Once again, sorry. I didn’t really mean to--” A buzzing from above caused the Cubone to stop Dante from talking.
“Wait…” It said. “What’s that noise? Don’t tell me you woke up the Beedrill!”
“Erm…heh-heh. Actually, that’s a funny story.” Dante said as he rubbed the back of his neck with his 3-fingered hand.
Cubone looked up through the hollowing of the trunk, only to see the head Beedrill and the others. They were diving straight for the Cubone and Dante.
Dante gasped faintly. “Sho—should we run now?” He stammered.
Cubone’s jaw was dropped. “…Yes, we should.”
And with that, both of them dashed out of the opening in the front of the tree trunk, just trying to keep up with one another. Cubone jumped into a tree, leaving Dante still running along the long, never-ending grass path.
Dante, who was still running, screamed up to the Cubone. “Hey, do you think you could help me out here?!”
Cubone looked down from the tree at him. “Do I really look like I can lift you up here? Try that path up to the left. Look for the fork in the road. You can lose them that way!”
Dante nodded and kept running. “Got it!” He ran and ran until the fork in the road, then turned left. He looked behind him while still running. “Yes! The Beedrill are falling behind, they’re—Oh…” At that point, Dante ran into a large tree, and fell to the ground half-conscious. “Is it…dinner time, yet?” He stood up and shook his head. “Snap out of it, Dante! SNAP out of IT!”
Meanwhile, catching up with Dante, the Beedrill were closing in. “We…are getting…good dinner tonight…” They said to themselves.
After about a minute of spinning around aimlessly, Dante finally realized what was going on. The Beedrill were almost upon him. “Have to get out of—Uh…oh.” There was 4 Beedrill surrounding him. “Now what? What do you all want from me?!”
One of the Beedrill snickered evilly. “Should we make it slow and painful? Or…fast and deadly. It’s your choice.”
Dante gasped quietly. “Wha—What? I—I…But, I…”
The Beedrill dove for Dante.
Dante screamed. But then, he felt nothing. He looked up. There was a green, glowing shield of some sort around him, keeping the Beedrill out. He guessed that it was protect, but who was making it? He looked around the area inside the shield, and noticed a red figure of some kind. “…Deoxys?”
The Deoxys looked like he was keeping the shield up, but it said one thing. “Go.” It said.
Dante didn’t need telling twice. He dashed out of the small opening in the protect shield, and jumped down into an empty riverbed. Then, he followed the dried up river. Hopefully, he could find the Cubone again, and then figure out what was going on!
---- ---- ----
CHAPTER 5: Dark Depths
---- ---- ----
It was very dark. Maybe it was the middle of the night. Dante had found a nice little spot in a cave-like place in the ravine.
He thought to himself. “I can't believe it... I'm a Treecko. This is... Scary, yet still amazing.” He stood up and walked to the opening of the cave, where he came in. He looked up at the moon. “Wow... The moon seems so much bigger, here.”
A bunch of bushes nearby rustled. “Hello? Is anybody there?” The bushes said.
Dante turned to the bushes. “Who-who's there? Show yourself!”
There was silence for a moment, but then a Cubone walked out from under the bush. “Hey, you're that Treecko from earlier! Sorry I ran off like that. Are you okay?”
Dante smiled. “I'm fine. Thanks.” But then, he frowned. “Erm... Do you know where I am? This is really different. I don’t even have thumbs…” He said as he looked at his green, 3-fingered hand.
The Cubone tilted it's head to one side. “Man, you're weird... Here. My hut is just down the path from here. You can come stay the night there, if you want.”
Dante put his hand on his chin... Or at least, where his chin should've been. He paused for a moment, but then said, “Sure. Sounds better than staying in this damp, dark cave, anyway.”
---- ---- ----
“No! This isn't part of the plan!” A voice said angrily. “We mustn't let them find out about each other!”
Another voice, this one weaker, spoke up. “But sire, they've already met each other! It won't be long now before they find out each other's identities.”
The angry voice spoke up once again. “I don't care what needs to be done! Just make sure that they don't tell each other their names, or we'll be done for!”
“Yes, sire. Anything for you.” The weak voice said as it left the room.
The large, hulking figure of which the angry voice came from stood up, and walked over to a large crystal ball in the corner of the room. He touched it with one of his claws, and an image of the Cubone's hut appeared inside. In the hut, there was a Treecko sleeping in a corner, and a Cubone in a bed of grass.
“All must go according to plan.” He said to himself. “You two must NOT interfere.”
---- ---- ----
The next morning, Dante was the first to wake up. The Cubone was still sleeping in its bed of grassy material. Dante walked to the opening in the hut, where the door should've been.
He thought to himself. “I wonder... if there was a purpose to this. I know I wished for it... But, something doesn't feel right. I wouldn't just get pulled into another world for no reason, would I?”
There was an enormous crash in the hut. Dante heard someone scream. He gasped and ran back into the hut. What he saw was amazing. The back half of the hut did not exist. All that was left was some rubble.
“OH NO!” Dante screamed. How on earth... Or whatever planet he was on... Could this happen so quickly? He looked up in the sky for anything that could've done this, but saw nothing. Then he remembered. “Ah! Cubone, where are you?” He looked frantically around for the small, furry animal, but couldn't find anything. He fell to his knees. “Why does this keep happening?! Am I cursed or something?!”
Something flashed in the corner of Dante's eye. He looked in that direction quickly. There, just standing there on the ground, was a faded image of Deoxys.
“Deoxys…” Dante said, as he walked towards it. “Did you save me before?”
Deoxys didn’t reply. Instead, he pointed out to the horizon. All he did after that was nod, and then he started to fade away.
“Deoxys! Wait! Where’s the Cubone? Do you know?” Dante begged Deoxys.
Deoxys pointed out to the horizon again, and this time, Dante looked. There, maybe not a few miles away, was a large, castle-like structure. Dante nodded. “Okay… I get it now. So that’s where Cubone--” Dante looked to where the Deoxys was, moments ago, but there was nothing there. “… I guess that… I should start my journey.”
